When our son Eric was diagnosed with autism at 29 months, everything changed for my wife Polly and me. We had to help our child, and the way forward was unclear. There were forks in the road, and well-meaning people offered conflicting advice. What to do about school, about therapy, about planning for the future — it seemed overwhelming.
But we dug in. Eric received ABA, went to school, and, with the help of too many to name, learned and grew. It wasn't always the experience that our friends with typically-developing children had, but as he grew, our hope did, too.
Now it’s 17 years later, and Eric is working towards having a job. He also sings, plays tennis, and like other young adults, is finding his place in the world. Along the way, we got involved, we learned more, and now we’ve had the opportunity to found New Connections. It is my profound hope that New Connections can be a source of help and of hope for families just like my own.
